Bob Barnes has worked with Spooner Rodeo since 1954. Barnes’ stock performed well again at the Great Lakes Circuit Finals in Louisville, KY in 2006. D8 Cat Power, a saddle bronc from the Barnes string, was selected as top saddle bronc of the Great Lakes Circuit. Both Cat Power from Barnes Rodeo stock and Little Stone, from MJM rodeo, went out to compete at Las Vegas in the 2006 National Finals.
In the Great Lakes Circuit Finals, Barnes’ #327 LV Lights tied with MJM’s #1 Y0 No Ballou for third best saddle bronc of the circuit. MJM’s #340 bow Tie was chosen as the circuit’s second best bareback horse. Sean Prater won the second go round saddle bronc riding on MJM’s #2J8 Double Identity with 84 points. Wes Dinwiddie placed second on #34 T Bar in the bull riding second go round with a score of 82. Steve Antzak took third in that same go round on #214 Orange Smoothie. Among the other bull riding competitors who lost to Barnes/MJM bulls, Wade Sundell was bucked off #X158 Buckskin Bob in the first go round and off #5 Little One in the second. Jeremy Gilreath was thrown off in the second go round by #0 Way Out, as was Eric Gunkelman in the final go round by #321 Skid Row Scorpion.
At Benny Binion’s World Famous Wrangler NFR bucking horse and bull sale at Las Vegas in December 2006, Bob, Marty and John Barnes were again among the high volume buyers. They purchased five bulls and 1 fighting bull for a total bill of $22,700. More than one-third of that amount, $8,500, was spent for just one bull. Then on their way home from Las Vegas, they stopped in Utah to buy 15 more bulls. Great rodeo action and excitement are guaranteed whenever and wherever the Barnes family is involved!
